Privacy Policy — Firstlight

Firstlight is a local-first task manager. This Privacy Policy explains what information the app handles, how it is used, and what choices you have.
Information Firstlight Handles
Firstlight may store information you choose to add to the app, including:
- Tasks, notes, checklists, tags, projects, areas, headings, schedules, deadlines, reminders, repeat rules, focus sessions, and weekly review information.
- Image attachments that you choose to add to tasks.
- Calendar event details when you grant calendar permission, such as event title, time, location, calendar name, and calendar color.
- Voice transcripts when you use voice input to create or edit task text.
- Local notification state, such as whether a reminder has already been scheduled or shown.
- Basic app state, such as onboarding progress and dismissed permission banners.
How Information Is Used
Firstlight uses this information to provide core app features, including:
- Saving and organizing your tasks.
- Showing today’s plan, upcoming work, projects, tags, and review history.
- Displaying calendar events alongside your tasks so you can plan around them.
- Attaching selected images to tasks.
- Turning voice input into task text.
- Scheduling local reminders and app badge counts.
- Keeping the app working across launches.
Local-First Storage
Firstlight is designed to work without an account or cloud service. Your core task data is stored locally on your device using app storage.
Image attachments are copied into the app’s local file storage. Calendar events are read from your device calendar only when calendar access is granted.
Firstlight does not currently provide server-backed accounts, analytics, advertising, shared workspaces, or cloud sync in the public app.
Permissions
Firstlight may ask for the following permissions:
Calendar
Used to show calendar events alongside your tasks. Firstlight reads calendar event details only after you grant permission. Firstlight does not use calendar access for advertising or tracking.
Photos
Used to let you attach selected images to tasks. Firstlight only imports images you choose.
Camera
Used if you choose to take a photo for a task attachment.
Microphone and Speech Recognition
Used for voice input. Speech recognition is handled by your device operating system or its speech recognition service. Depending on your device and settings, audio or speech data may be processed by Apple, Google, or another operating system speech provider.
Notifications
Used to schedule local task reminders, planning prompts, and badge counts. Notifications are based on your task data stored on your device.
Clipboard
Used only when you choose to paste an image from the clipboard into a task.
Third-Party Services
Firstlight is built with Expo and React Native libraries that provide device features such as calendar access, image selection, notifications, speech recognition, and local storage.
Firstlight does not sell your data and does not use third-party advertising or analytics SDKs.
If your device operating system provides speech recognition, calendar, photo, notification, or storage services, those services may process data according to their own privacy policies.
Data Sharing
Firstlight does not sell, rent, or share your personal task data with advertisers or data brokers.
Firstlight may disclose information only if required by law, to protect rights and safety, or with your consent.
Data Retention
Data you enter into Firstlight remains on your device until you delete it, uninstall the app, or clear app data through your device settings.
Deleting a task or image attachment removes it from the app’s local data. Some deleted information may remain in device backups depending on your operating system backup settings.
Your Choices
You can:
- Deny or revoke calendar, photo, camera, microphone, speech recognition, and notification permissions in your device settings.
- Delete tasks and image attachments inside the app.
- Delete the app to remove locally stored app data from your device.
- Manage device backups through your operating system settings.
Some features may not work if required permissions are denied.
Children’s Privacy
Firstlight is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
Security
Firstlight uses local device storage and platform permission controls to limit access to your data. No method of storage is completely secure, so you should protect your device with a passcode, biometric lock, or other device security features.
Changes To This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the effective date and provide notice where appropriate.
